What the tool does

YouTube to Text reads available captions from YouTube videos and Shorts. It keeps the source link, caption language and timing with the captured text. You can copy, search and export the transcript.

The Chrome extension can work on its own. The optional local server adds a web reader, a saved transcript library and MCP tools for compatible desktop clients.

An independent BusinessPress tool

YouTube to Text is not affiliated with YouTube, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic or xAI. Their names and logos identify the caption source or an AI destination. They do not imply sponsorship.

ChatGPT, Claude and Grok buttons copy text and open their websites. Local MCP is a separate connection for compatible clients.

Current version and limits

Version 0.1.0 is the initial public website release. Paste a video link without an extension. Download the optional extension or local MCP tool for device-based workflows. The extension is not listed in the Chrome Web Store.

The tool reads captions; it does not transcribe audio. YouTube can block anonymous server requests. If this happens, use the extension in your own YouTube tab. Native Shorts can also fail. No public MCP endpoint or hosted account system is included.

Find the right guide

Start by pasting a video link into the transcript tool. Read the extension setup guide if you want to copy while browsing. Compare transcript formats if you need a file. Read the MCP and AI agents page for connected workflows.

The privacy policy explains storage, permissions, AI sharing and deletion.

Try the transcript tool.
