How Shorts capture works

Paste a Shorts link into the reader. No extension is required. The background browser opens the ordinary watch page for that video. It reads available captions, then closes. You can also capture a Short with the optional extension.

The original Shorts tab stays open. Live Shorts acceptance is still being verified. Isolated tests cover the request and temporary-tab cleanup, but they do not prove that every live Short can be captured.

Why a transcript can be unavailable

  • The video has no available captions.
  • The requested caption language is not available.
  • The video changed while the capture was running.
  • YouTube blocked or delayed the request.
  • The page or transcript panel uses markup the extractor cannot read.

The tool does not generate missing captions. It does not bypass access restrictions.

What to check before retrying

  1. Check the video link and try the default language.
  2. Open the video’s watch page and check whether a transcript is available.
  3. If YouTube blocks the server, download the Chrome extension and capture in your own tab.
  4. For local MCP, check that your local server and optional pairing are running.

Do not share pairing keys. Captions are required; this tool does not bypass access restrictions.

Captions can contain mistakes

Automatic captions can misread names, numbers and technical terms. Even edited captions can omit speech or split a sentence across segments. Check important quotes against the video. A summary from an AI service can introduce further errors.

Keep the source link with your notes. Timestamp links help you check the matching part of the video.

Try the transcript tool.

Try the real caption excerpt. Then paste your own video link.
